The National Justice Museum in Nottingham has appointed four new members to their board of trustees – Ben Yallop, Lily Walker-Parr, Ryan Holford, and Clive Foster MBE. The new members, chosen from a wide selection of applicants, were appointed for their range of experience and expertise from the judiciary, diversity and inclusion, education, and media and communications.

The new trustees will help shape the museum, based in the Grade II* listed Shire Hall in Nottingham, which houses a vast collection of objects from the history of crime and punishment. The museum is also a registered educational charity with learning sites across the UK, and an Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisation, working with local artists and communities to create workshops, exhibitions and outreach that encourages debate and engagement with social justice issues.

Victoria Reeves, CEO said ‘We are thrilled that we have been able to expand our board in this way as we strive to widen the reach of our organisation, educate more young people and work with more of our local communities. The Trustees join our current board in providing expert guidance to our teams.’

Ben Yallop

Ben Yallop joined the civil service in 2003 and has since held a range of senior roles within the Crown Court, the Royal Courts of Justice and the UK Supreme Court, working alongside very many of the leading judges of the day. Ben was the Principal Private Secretary to the 97th Lord Chief Justice and then to the first Lady Chief Justice, a role in which he was the senior adviser to the Head of the Judiciary of England and Wales, dealing with the highest profile and most sensitive issues facing the judiciary and managing the constitutional relationship with Government Ministers and other Parliamentarians. Ben was also Head of International for the judiciary, supporting legal education and the development of the rule of law and justice systems globally, often sharing his experience directly with Chief Justices and other judicial and justice sector leaders. Ben is a magistrate and volunteers with a number of justice sector charities working domestically and internationally.

Lily Walker-Parr

Lily Walker-Parr is a media and communications law barrister practising at 5RB Chambers in Gray's Inn, London. She advises and represents claimants and defendants across all areas of media law, including Defamation, Misuse of Private Information, Data Protection and Harassment.

She has appeared in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court and County Courts and has considerable experience providing pre-publication advice in respect of print, broadcast and social media publications. Lily is also currently ranked as 'Up and Coming' in the Chambers and Partners UK Bar Guide 2024.

Ryan Holford

Ryan Holford is a teacher of History, working at a large mixed secondary school in Derby. He is passionate about all things education – ensuring that all young people have access to top-quality learning both inside and outside the classroom.  Beyond school, Ryan is involved in several governance positions for different educational settings within the city.  Before teaching, Ryan worked with various heritage organisations and museums – supporting different aspects of their operation and visitor offer.   

Ryan also brings experience in supporting mental health in young people, with a range of qualifications in youth mental health. He also brings experience in supporting people through the process of applying for asylum in the UK, providing personalised resources and facilitating language learning.

Clive Foster MBE

Clive Foster MBE is the Executive Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Dean for Nottingham Trent University and Senior Minister of the Pilgrim Church, Nottingham. He is an experienced Equality and Diversity Consultant and brings over 20 years of leadership and organising experience across multiple sectors community, public sector and business. Clive was the Co-Chair of Race Health Inequalities, working to create organisations and services which deliver better health outcomes across the Nottingham, Place Based Partnership and beyond. He has worked as an Equality and Diversity Consultant, where he established the Nottinghamshire Windrush Forum, advised the UK Home Office on supporting people affected by the Windrush scandal, and delivered the 2014 and 2018 Nottingham Citizens Hate Crime research projects that helped make misogyny a hate crime. Clive was awarded a Member of British Empire MBE for services for the Windrush Generation in December 2023.

Ben, Lily, Ryan and Clive join the Museum’s existing trustees Helen Emmett, Jennifer Spencer, Roger Chapple, Nic Williams, Struan Campbell, Jenny Chapman, Katherine McNamara, and Chair Paul Bowden.
