Social media moderation policy
The National Justice Museum is based in Nottingham’s former Shire Hall and County Gaol, a Grade II* listed building featuring a Victorian criminal and civil courtroom, an Edwardian police station and exhibitions exploring the fascinating history of justice. We house historically significant collections of over 40,000 objects that cover the history of the British Criminal Justice System.
On our social media channels, we share stories from our building’s true crime history, as well as news about our upcoming events and exhibitions on the complex and multi-faceted themes of social justice. All of this content is created with the help of our expert team of historians, researchers, and curators. We like sharing our stories with you and encouraging conversation and debate. We would ask people engaging with us to be kind and respectful to each other, our staff, and those working with us. We will moderate content (including but not limited to comments and posts) that we believe to be –
Abusive or harassing* - any content that is abusive, offensive, threatening, violent, disruptive, obscene, inflammatory, or sexually objectifying
Discriminatory – any content that discriminates against protected characteristics including age, gender, disability, race, religion, and sexual orientation

Containing personal information - including but not limited to the name, address, telephone, mobile or fax number, email address or any other personal data in respect of any individual

Off topic – any content that is unrelated to the original topic or our organisation (including spam, phishing or sales)
Impersonating or misrepresenting a person or organisation

Breaking a social media platform’s own rules or guidelines
We will not reply to comments which break the above rules, and these comments may be hidden or blocked at our discretion. Repeated breaking of the above rules may result in the account being blocked from our pages. We may report these comments or accounts to the social media platform where they break that platform’s rules, or to the police where they break the law.
Most importantly – be kind.
