Historical Costumed Interpreter

Successful applicants will offer all visitors a unique and high-quality experience when visiting the National Justice Museum and City of Caves through expert interactive interpretation with a consistently high standard of customer care, to ensure that the organisation continues to attract and retain visitors.


Responsible to: Visitor Experience Manager

Hours: Zero hours, weekend and evening working expected

Location: National Justice Museum and City of Caves, Nottingham

Contract: Permanent, 6-month probationary period

Rate of pay: £11.44 per hour

Key Responsibilities:

  • To offer a unique insight into the history and authenticity of both sites to visitors, in line with prepared information and scripts
  • To act or guide at both sites when required in line with prepared information and scripts
  • Be committed to the educational work, learning, and delivering all programmes to schools either at the Museum or City of Caves in line with prepared information and scripts
  • To assist at Corporate events both daytime and evening in various roles in line with organisational requirements or scripts
  • Be always committed to maintaining an excellent standard of customer care and service
  • To carry out basic maintenance duties to ensure a safe, clean, secure environment with the highest of standards for all users of both sites, ensuring your area of work is always clean and presentable and that exhibits are well maintained
  • To be fully aware of and adhere to all relevant Health and Safety and Child Protection policies
  • To act as the first point of contact for visitors regarding health & safety, customer care and first aid and to be responsible for all visitors in your care.
  • To maintain a safe environment for the customer and the museum collections
  • To maintain the security of work areas from intruders, physical damage, and theft
  • To wear and maintain costumes/uniform in line with agreed procedures
  • To support the work of the Visitor Experience Manager and Learning Manager and the ethos of the organisation
  • To consent to the use of images, both photographic and moving
  • To assist with marketing activities including costumed leaflet distribution in the city of Nottingham
  • To act professionally always
  • To be dressed and ready 15 minutes before the first tour/group delivery were applicable
  • To attend regular meetings and training events when requested
  • Any other duties consistent with the level of the post.
