Learning Facilitator (Freelance), London

Responsible to: Learning Manager

Hours: No set hours.  It is likely that more hours will be offered on Mondays and Fridays than mid-weekdays.  Session times are 10:30am-12:30pm, 1-3pm and occasionally 3-5pm.

Location: Sessions take place at the Royal Courts of Justice, London and occasionally at outreach locations across London and the South East.

Purpose and Objectives

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of National Justice Museum’s learning programme in London at the Royal Courts of Justice, and occasionally at outreach locations.

Job description

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate learning sessions with groups of children and young people at the Royal Courts of Justice, as part of National Justice Museum’s Courtroom Workshops programme
  • Facilitate external delivery and outreach sessions at other sites, as part of funded projects and partnerships with other institutions (travel expenses covered)
  • Be responsible for set-up and set down of learning spaces before and after each session
  • Record details of each visit in accordance with National Justice Museum’s procedures
  • Liaise with volunteers who attend sessions
  • Liaise with legal professionals who attend sessions for a Q&A.
  • Ensure that the Royal Courts of Justice’s security and health and safety policies are followed
  • Be presentable at all times, wearing and maintaining dress code
  • To positively promote the organisation and its core aims and objectives
  • To foster at all times positive relationships with teachers, education groups and members of the public
  • To take part in training where necessary
  • Any other necessary duties which are relevant to the role

Person specification

Essential

  • Practical education delivery or facilitation experience within a museum/arts/heritage environment
  • An understanding of safeguarding in relation to working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
  • High level of oral communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate complex information in an accessible manner
  • Ability to work with children and young people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proactive, with the ability to adapt to change quickly and easily
  • Engaging and enthusiastic, particularly when working with young people
  • Values aligned to the organisation’s commitment to anti-discrimination and equal rights for all
  • Excellent organisational skills

Desirable

  • Practical experience of citizenship education
  • Some knowledge of UK law and the Justice System

Appointment will be subject to two satisfactory references.

Due to the nature of the Learning Facilitator role, a DBS Enhanced Disclosure will be requested in the event of a successful application. In addition to this, successful applicants will also need to undergo a Counter Terrorism Check and receive security clearance in order to work at the Royal Courts of Justice.
